What is a Camlock Fitting?
Camlock, or cam and groove fittings, are a quick connect system used to couple at least one hose to a pump or pipe, as well as to attach other camlock hoses together. Camlock couplings always require one male adapter and one female coupler. They are designed to be easy to use, with no need for thread sealants or tape to create a seal. Instead, cam lock seals are created by the rubber gasket. When closing the arms on the female coupling, the rubber gasket is compressed by the male adapter, which creates a pressurized connection. This action prevents leakage.
Standard camlocks are categorized as Type "A", "B", "C', "D", "E', "F", "DC" or "DP".
The primary applications are for when frequent connecting and disconnecting is necessary. Or, when in use with a low-pressure system. The most common applications are agriculture, oil and gas, pumps, military, and sanitation.
The most common types of camlock fittings are aluminum, brass, polypropylene (plastic) and stainless steel. Camlocks are also made from cart iron, copper, ductile iron, galvanized carbon steel, plated carbon steel, nylon and food grade.
